FACILITIES OVERVIEW

Our facilities have a wide range of wet processing equipment used to carry out extraction and/or fractionation of many different plant based materials. The facility where our plant based ingredients are manufactured, POS Bio-Sciences in Saskatoon, was designed to safely utilize aqueous alcohol blends as working solvents and includes a distillation system allowing alcohol to be recovered and reused. Downstream processing allows the extracts to be clarified and refined. The extracts can then be concentrated to a final liquid product or alternatively dried to a powder product. Residual plant matrices after extraction can be safely desolventized in a nitrogen purged system to allow for solvent recovery and down stream use as a product or byproduct.

Natera Ingredients operates its facility for plant based ingredients on a fee for service basis to fulfill your custom processing needs. Processing is carried out utilizing customer-developed and supplied technology held in strict confidence. This facility has a site license under Health Canada’s Natural Health Product Directorate. The site license requires compliances with good manufacturing practices and quality assurance supervision of all processing, and also operates under the Kosher supervision of the Orthodox Union. Simpli’s dedicated hemp processing facility is also in Saskatoon, deals exclusively with processing hemp seed food products and operates under the same good manufacturing processes and quality assurance supervision as POS Bio-Sciences in Saskatchewan with the most modern and top quality grain processing equipment available.

CONSTRUCTION AND FINISH

The two story contrite construction building where our plant based powders and extracts are formulated has a roof supported by tubular steel columns and beams with a welded galvanized steel ceiling that is sealed to eliminate horizontal dust and grime accumulation. The plant floor is epoxy coated, and all carbon steel is coated with an epoxy based paint to allow for caustic or acid-based cleaning. Plant perimeter walls are steel construction with prefabricated, epoxy enamel painted, insulated metal panel infill for a smooth cleaning surface. The plant is designed to allow for safe alcohol processing including electrical requirements, fresh air ventilation, and air quality monitoring. The facility also meets the guidelines for cosmetics manufacturing, including water and air filtration requirements. The equipment is primarily for food processing and is constructed with either 304 or 316 stainless steel wetted surfaces. Carbon steel frames and supports are primarily painted with an epoxy enamel. Elastomers used are compatible with alcohol.
